Electric Picnic 2026 road closures - all you need to know
The Electric Picnic will take place in Stradbally from Friday 28 to Sunday 30 August
BETWEEN Wednesday, 26 and Monday, 31August, some 75,000 festivalgoers will flock to Stradbally, for this year’s Electric Picnic.
The gardaí encourage those attending the festival to make their way to the site at Stradbally by public transport where possible. Portlaoise is the closest train station to Stradbally and throughout the festival, whicj kicks on Friday 28 August, there will be a paid shuttle bus service operating from Portlaoise Train Station directly to the pick-up/drop-off area.
Car parks will open for early entry ticket holders from 4pm on Thursday, 27 August and from 9am on Friday, 28 August until 4pm on Monday, 31 August for all general ticket holders.
Festivalgoers are also advised that tow-away vehicles will be in operation for the duration of the festival to remove any illegally parked vehicle and those causing obstruction.
Gardai are also asking that those travelling from Rosslare Port use an alternative route and not to come near Stradbally as it will be choker-block with traffic throughout the EP weekend. The public are also being advised that the only collection or drop off point will be at the Pick-up Drop-off area located just off the N80 on the Portlaoise side of Stradbally.
For locals not attending, An Garda Síochána say are strongly encouraging them to avoid using the road networks around Stradbally from 10am Thursday 27 August to 5pm on Monday 31 August. The R427 Cork Road in Stradbally will be closed from 10am Thursday to 4pm on Monday 31 August, as will the L3837/Timahoe Road between Stradbally Village and Timogue Cross.
Access to the R427 from Vicarstown to the N80 and the L3818 Rathmore Road from the Heath to the N80 will also be restricted at regular intervals from Thursday to Monday.
For the post festival exodus, road closures will operate on the N80 between Bloomfield roundabout and Simmonsmill from 7am to 4pm on Monday, 31 August; and the junction 16 exit off the M7 Motorway will be closed to traffic from 7am to 4pm, while junction 17 will be shut from 10am to 2pm.
