Portarlington woman hoping to make history in general election in Laois

Elaine Mullally is hoping to make history by becoming the first ever woman from Laois to get elected to Dáil Éireann as a TD.
Independent candidate in the upcoming general election in the three seat Laois constituency Elaine Mullally says she is hoping to make history by becoming the first ever elected woman TD from Laois.
She will be contesting for the historic title with two other general election contenders Rosie Palmer from the Green Party and Mary Hand from Aontú.
Ms Mullally said “While women have represented Laois-Offaly in the past, no female TD has ever come from Laois. When the constituency was Laois-Offaly all our female TD’s were Offaly based. We've actually never had a woman from Laois in Dáil Éireann.
She is now determined to change that and says that she is “offering a fresh perspective and a commitment to delivering real results for the people of Laois."
A mother of two daughters, aged 20 and 21, Ms Mullally also owns the Clown Around Play Centre in Portarlington.
She said that her deep ties to the local community and understanding of the challenges facing families in the area drive her campaign.
She says that her “Mission is clear. To bring common sense back into politics.”
The Independent election candidate said that she is “dedicated to ensuring that Laois receives the attention and resources it has long been denied. For too long, Laois has been overlooked. I am running to make sure that changes. I believe in listening to the needs of our community and delivering real solutions that will make a difference in people’s lives.”
Ms Mullally has held a number of townhall type meetings around the county and says that her message is “resonating with voters eager for a new approach in politics.”
