Tributes paid to Des Carr following tragic workplace accident at Netwatch Cullen Park

Desmond Carr

TRIBUTES have been paid to Desmond (Des) Carr, the man who died following a workplace accident at Netwatch Cullen Park, Carlow on Thursday morning.

Des, of Rosedale Cottage, Chaplestown, Carlow and formerly of Burrows Road, Kensal Green, London, died suddenly on 5 November 2026.

Gardaí confirmed on Thursday that they and emergency services attended the scene of a workplace accident in Carlow at 10.30am that morning, where a man aged in his 50s was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The state pathologist has been notified and a post-mortem examination will be carried out. The Health and Safety Authority (HSA) was also notified and attended the scene alongside An Garda Síochána. A file will be prepared for the Coroner’s Court.

Des was the beloved son of the late Frances and Noel. He will be sadly missed by his soul mate Bridget, his brothers Tony and Kevin, Bridget’s family, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, cousins, his special little friends Dylan and Lucy, extended family, his work colleagues at Netwatch Cullen Park, neighbours and a large circle of friends.

Messages of sympathy have been left on the online book of condolences, with many describing Des as a gentle man who was taken far too soon.

One woman described him as “a gentle man gone way too soon”, while a couple from Tullow said he would never be forgotten and was “always a word for everyone”.

Another message of condolence from Bennekerry extended deepest sympathies to Bridget and to “all of Dessie’s friends and family on his untimely passing”, while another mourner wrote: “May his gentle soul rest in peace.” Funeral arrangements will be announced later.
