IRELAND boasted strong performances by all of their representatives at last Saturday’s World Under-18 Youth Cup Mountain Running Championships in Donovaly, Slovakia, with the boys’ team finishing up eighth overall and the girls emerging 12th.

FIVE Laois athletes are among the eight competitors set to represent Ireland at the World Under-18 Youth Cup Mountain Running Championships in Donovaly, Slovakia this coming Saturday.

ST Abban’s AC had a large crowd out competing on Saturday at the Leinster Juvenile Relays held in SETU Carlow. Overall, the club won seven sets of medals across a wide range of age groups with athletes competing across even and uneven ages.

THE Leinster Schools Track and Field Championships took place on last week with a host of St Abban’s athletes swapping their club vests to represent their various schools in Tullamore.

MOUNTMELLICK’S Ava O’Connor has etched her name into Irish athletics history in recent weeks with remarkable performances at the Bryan Clay Invitational in California, where she shattered the Irish U/23 3000m steeplechase record. Her time of 9:46.

WHILE storm Éowyn battered the county on Friday, weather conditions had not improved much by Sunday when the Laois Novice Road Championships took place along the canal in Vicarstown.

WELL done to all the St Abban’s AC juveniles who travelled to Offaly on Saturday for the Leinster Juvenile Cross Country Relays. The club had five teams competing across all age groups with all securing team medals which was a fantastic achievement.

A WEEK ago, the Novice Cross Country was held on an overcast morning on the stubble-field course of McDonalds farm in Killeshin. In both adult races, the Oughaval men’s and women’s teams won team gold.

DAY 1 and 2 of the Laois Cross Country Championships couldn’t have been much more different to each other in terms of weather.
