Jack Kelly misses out on medal at European Aquatics Championships

Jack Kelly finished 7th in the 100-metre breaststroke final at the European Aquatics Championships.

Italy's 2024 Olympic champion Nicolo Martinenghi took gold, Ivan Kozhakin (neutral) got the silver, with another Italian, Simone Cerasuolo in the bronze position.

Olympic bronze medallist Mona McSharry cruised into the women’s 100m breaststroke final, clocking 1:05.64 in this evening’s semi-final, just outside the Irish record.

There was no joy for Ellie McCartney, who was eighth in McSharry's semi, clocking 1.08.37.

John Shortt reached the men's 200m backstroke final in a new Irish record.

The Galway man got out of the heats with a time of 1:56.50, and bettered that in the semis, producing a stirring last 50 metres to take second in 155.31.
