World Athletics Championships: Andrew Coscoran qualifies for 1500 final

Andrew Coscoran has qualified for the final of men's 1500m after finishing fifth in his semi-final in Tokyo.

Coscoran finished with a time of 3:35.65 in a semi-final that also included former champions Josh Kerr and Jake Wightman of Britain and 2019 champion Timothy Cheruiyot from Kenya.

The final is set for Wednesday at 2.20 pm Irish time, with Coscoran the first Irish athlete to make the men’s 1,500m final since Ciarán O’Lionaird in 2011.

Sarah Lavin was unbale to qualify for the final of the women's 100m hurdles after finishing fourth time of 12.86 in the semi-finals.

In the final of the hammer, Nicola Tuthill finished 11th.

Tuthill's three throws saw her throw a best of 69.49m with her first effort, but making the final already satisfied the hopes of the 21-year-old

Earlier this morning, Ireland's Peter Lynch came home in 24th spot in the men's marathon.
