U2 to release first studio album of new songs in nine years with new single

Irish rock band U2 are to release their first studio album of new material in nine years along with a new single called Street Of Dreams.

The Bono-led group will release the as yet untitled new album later this year, while Street Of Dreams was released on Tuesday, accompanied by a video shot in Mexico City, where they attended the 2026 Street Child World Cup Finals Tournament at Parque Ecologico Lago Ae Texcoco.

A video accompanying the single shows the band, who are completed by guitarist The Edge, bass player Adam Clayton and drummer Larry Mullen Jr, performing for fans in the city.

The clip, filmed near Plaza Santo Domingo, took place amid thunder and rain, which caused a generator to crash, and saw a local family welcome the band into their apartment to film on the balcony.

The single is released on Island Records and produced by Jacknife Lee, and comes as the band celebrate 50 years together in 2026.

The accompanying music video sees the band performing atop a graffiti-covered bus to a lively crowd in the streets of Mexico City, and shares similarities with the video for their 1987 track Where The Streets Have No Name.

Since forming in 1976, U2 have achieved seven UK number one singles and 11 number one albums, their latest record will follow 2023’s Songs Of Surrender, which saw the band re-record a number of old songs from throughout their career, and the album Songs Of Experience, released in 2017.

Songs Of Experience was the follow up to 2014’s Songs Of Innocence, which attracted attention when it was automatically loaded on to iPhone libraries following its release.

Formed in Dublin, U2’s best known songs include Sunday Bloody Sunday, Beautiful Day and Vertigo.
