After a busy spring and summer, autumn has finally arrived and with it, an opportunity to take some take out to enjoy a creative break.
And what better than taking yourself away for a weekend to the beautiful Heritage town of Abbeyleix, Co. Laois, on a Power of Words Writers’ Retreat?
Set in the glorious surroundings of the well-loved Georgian house, ‘Preston House’, this writers’ retreat, taking place on the weekend of 17th – 19th October 2025, allows you, among other delights, time to ‘focus on beginnings’ on a day-long fact to fiction writing workshop with award winning Irish writer, NIAMH BOYCE, as part of the weekend offerings.
This exclusive weekend is filled with all things writing but also with plenty of other interesting and enjoyable activities, such as a delicious two-course lunch in Michelin star Chef, Sam Moody’s exquisite ‘Bramley’ restaurant, an in-house post-dinner musical performance, an opportunity to share your writing with others, guided walking tours of Abbeyleix and its famous Boglands, time to rest, read, chat and enjoy the luxurious surroundings of Preston House, as well as an always popular visit to one of Ireland’s oldest pubs, the landmark ‘Morrissey’s’, where you’ll enjoy the first round of drinks for free!
The retreat is limited to twelve people and each of the previous Power of Words retreat offerings have received rave reviews. Residential and non-residential options are available.
