A man and his partner, accused of possessing about €20,000 worth of cannabis and cocaine after being intercepted in Dún Laoghaire, in south Co Dublin, have been granted bail.

Jamie Stedman, 32, and Amy Gavin, 33, with an address at Shroughmore, Ballindaggin, Enniscorthy, Co Wexford, appeared before Judge Gerard Jones at Dublin District Court on Saturday.

They were charged with possession of cocaine and cannabis in Dún Laoghaire on Friday, and with having the drugs for sale or supply.

Garda Harry Poole told the court that they made no reply when charged.

He told the court that the value of the seizure was suspected to be €15,000-€20,000, and "It was found in a vehicle after it was stopped and searched".

Garda Poole said he had no objection to bail with terms. Defence counsel Sam Friel said there was consent, and they were ordered to remain out of Dún Laoghaire – save for court appearances - and Ballybrack. Mr Stedman's phone was seized, and he must provide a new number within 24 hours and refrain from seeking a passport.

The court heard Ms Gavin had recently applied for a passport, and the judge acceded to Garda Poole's request that it be forfeited as a condition of bail.

Counsel said she was the co-accused and partner of Mr Stedman.

She also has to provide a contact phone number to gardaí, and the pair must reside at their address stated in court.

They did not speak during the proceedings and have yet to indicate pleas. The pair were released and must appear at Dún Laoghaire District Court on July 8th next for directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions on the charges under Sections 3 and 15 of the Misuse of Drugs Act.

Legal aid was granted.
