A MAN has been ordered to stay out of Portlaoise except to attend the maternity ward at Portlaoise hospital.

The order was made at last week’s sitting of Portlaoise District Court on Ross O’Keeffe (32), Oak Drive, Ballincollig, Mountmellick.

He was before the court on a section 4 of the Public Order Act (intoxicated in a public place) that allegedly took place at his address and to an alleged theft from Mulhall’s SuperValu, Lyster Square, Portlaoise, both on 25 February.

The court was told that gardaí had no objection to bail being granted on condition that Mr O’Keeffe stays out of Portlaoise.

Defending solicitor Josehine Fitzpatrick said that her client’s partner is currently in the maternity ward at Portlaoise hospital and asked that he be allowed to visit her, which gardaí agreed to.

Judge Andrew Cody was told that the alleged theft from Mulhall’s shop involved an €8 bottle of prosecco.

He went on to remand Mr O’Keefee on conditional bail to the next sitting of the court.
