Portlaoise Courthouse

A LOCAL WOMAN who was feeling unwell as last week’s sitting of the district court in Portlaoise had her case adjourned until May.

Amanda Dunne (39), Rosewood, Rathdowney Road, Borris-in-Ossory was in court, where she pleaded guilty to the theft of two items valued at €10.10 from the Daybreak store, Main Street, Borris-in-Ossory on 21 February.

Her barrister Anne Doyle said that since the incident, her client had paid back the store for the goods she took.

Ms Doyle went on to say that Ms Dunne: “Is extremely unwell at the moment and is getting sick. She is asking to adjourn the matter to another date.” Garda Sgt JJ Kirby said the defendant: “Is well-known to the courts. She’s doing better recently and I haven’t seen her in court in a while.” Judge Susan Fay remanded Ms Dunne on continuing bail and asked for a probation report to be prepared for the 25 May sitting of the court.
