A MAN who was on the second day of a wedding celebration has very little recollection of how he ended up getting arrested.
So Judge Andrew Cody was told when Thomas McKeown (37), Ashgrove, Ballybrittas appeared before him at Portlaoise District Court on a summons under the Criminal Justice (Public Order) Act, 1994 (It shall be an offence for any person to be present in any public place while intoxicated to such an extent as would give rise to a reasonable apprehension that he might endanger himself or any other person in his vicinity).
The defendant pleaded guilty to the offence that took place at 3.30pm at Market Square, Portarlington on 22 June last year.
Defending solicitor Philip Meagher said that his client works in the retail trade and was on a second day of a wedding celebration.
“It was 48 hours into the celebrations and he has very little recollection of what happened. He realises that gardaí have more to be doing than having to deal with him. He said gardaí were good to him and brought him home.” Judge Cody struck out the summons after Mr McKeown agreed to donate €500 to Little Blue Heroes Foundation charity.
