Status yellow heat warning for Leinster and Tipperary

A status yellow high temperature warning has been issued for 14 counties.

The alert will be in place for Leinster and Co Tipperary from 6am tomorrow until 6am on Friday, with highs of up to 28 degrees expected.

Met Éireann is warning of an increased risk of heat stress, water safety issues, uncomfortable sleeping conditions and animal welfare issues.

Minimum temperatures at night-time are expected to be above 15 degrees during the alert.

Before the alert comes into effect, temperatures are expected to reach peaks of 27 degrees on Tuesday, which is set to be a “warm or very warm” day.

On Wednesday, which will be a “humid and very warm or even hot day”, highest temperatures are expected to reach 28 or 29 degrees. It will be “hottest” in Leinster.

Thursday is expected to be another warm or hot day and will see highs of 28 degrees before temperatures fall back to between 17 and 22 degrees on Friday.

Meteorologist Rebecca Cantwell says cloudier weather is forecast further west. "We have an area of low pressure to our west, coming up against an area of high pressure to the east. So it's stalling that cloud over the west and northwest. It will be much duller there until Thursday or Friday and then there could be a few light showers in all areas."
