Laois motorist who allegedly performed ‘Donuts’ in local car park has case adjourned

Portlaoise Courthouse

A MAN who allegedly performed ‘donuts’ in his car in a snow-covered car park in Laois had his case for dangerous driving adjourned when it came before last week’s sitting of the district court in Portlaoise.

David Karczewski (25) from 34 Rossvale, Portlaoise was summoned before the court for dangerous driving at Togher, Portlaoise on 5 January.

His solicitor Philip Meagher said the alleged incident happened on a night of heavy snow and in a car park that had been relatively quiet at junction 17.

He asked the court to consider reducing the summons to that of one of careless driving.

Judge Andrew Cody said that such an order to reduce the summons from dangerous driving to careless driving would only be considered when all evidence is heard in a case and, having heard the evidence, and if it supports careless driving, he would consider reducing it or if the director of public prosecutions directs it be reduced.

He went on to adjourn the case to 12 February for a full hearing into it.
